Finally! The moment you’ve all been waiting for: Life Flashes By is now available for public consumption! Grab it here! [1]
It’s been a bit of a rough road getting this game finished, but it’s been rewarding every step of the way, and I can honestly say I’ve done my best work. I haven’t worked on a project this demanding and personal in quite some time; as you can imagine, I’m overjoyed to finally be able to have something to show for it. Meanwhile, I hope you all enjoy spending time with Charlotte and Trevin as much as I have over these past several months.
Footnotes:
- I’m referring to this version of the game as the beta version, but I mean “beta” in more of a Google sense than anything else. Which is to say, it’s complete, but may have bugs — hopefully not terribly serious ones, though. If you find any, please let me know about them, either by commenting or sending me a message through the contact form! ↩
Amazing amount of work. Love the dialogues and the writing! I’m enjoying it ‘alot’
Nice work on the game, it’s really exciting to see everything come together! Voice acting, art, and music all compliment each other nicely, and I like the map/navigation system you came up with for getting about the different scenes. Bravo!
Here via Shakesville; finished the first go-through about ten minutes ago.
Good characters; I concur that Charlotte’s VA was good and I thought the artwork (backgrounds particularly) was better than KQ7.
The music reminds me of Neverhood
Cyrus: I’m flattered by the comparison. I’m a huge fan of the Neverhood soundtrack.
I have a problem if I use the windows key to go to the desktop while the game is open; my mouse pointer will get stuck in the upper left corner of my screen, and become impossible to move, so that I have to restart my computer. It also may have happened once that it just by itself went to the desktop, with the same problem with the mouse. It might be a bug? I’m running it on a rather old laptop with Windows XP.
I’m enjoying the game. I can really relate to Charlotte. She like me in some ways.
Thanks, Erica! Sounds like an engine bug; I’ll report it over at the SLUDGE forums.
The character art didn’t grab me, but the writing and story were good. A favorite part, though, was the music, especially for the breakup scene.
(Here via Shakesville, too.)
I’m at the scene with the film script revision meeting at the moment, one of my favourites. Very nice dig at a certain film director! I liked the breakup scene and initial meeting with Aaron also, and Charlotte’s daughter, and well…pretty much everything except the maths lecture scene
The voice acting for Charlotte is a lot better in the later scenes too, it felt a little bit too flat to me in the first couple of scenes but I like it much more as I’m further into the story. Just the writing, the music and the characters are all excellent, and the art has a quirky quality to it also(the fish in the birdfeeders and birds in the garden pond, little stuff like that).
Wonderful game. I could so relate to Charlotte. Well thought-out, plotted, sparkling with life, truth, magic, and art. This game made me feel warm inside.
Thanks, Ava!
