Memes are for LiveJournals, Part Deux
March 28th, 2006I swear I’ve done this meme before, but not on this particular blog. However, that guy who wrote that book I reviewed in my last blog entry appears to have tagged me, so now you get to read embarrassing answers to semi-personal questions. Doesn’t that sound fun or what?

Four Blogs I Visit Every Day
Well, I don’t HAVE to visit them everyday, thanks to the magic of RSS feeds. But here are some I visit somewhat regularly
1. Grumpy Gamer (AKA Ron Gilbert of Monkey Island fame’s blog)
2. Game Girl Advance
3. The blog of my soon-to-be employer
4. Leopold McGinnis of Game Quest fame’s blog (Just in case you require reminding, BUY THE BOOK!)
Four Places I’d Rather Be Right Now
1. Sleeping

4. Going on adventures around the world!
Four Bloggers I’m Tagging
1. Wormsie, because he never updates his blog!
2. Jacob Sheehy, because he barely ever updates his blog!
3. Rob Heydari, because although he does update his blog on occasion, he still might get a kick out of memery regardless.
4. Rikard and Kejero, because neither of them have blogs and I want to make them feel uncomfortable.

March 29th, 2006 at 12:38 pm
Do you capitalize and punctuate your everyday discussions as well? ¬¬
(Pardon me.)
March 29th, 2006 at 12:42 pm
Yes…
March 29th, 2006 at 1:11 pm
I obeyed! http://wormsie.adventuredevelopers.com/blog/
March 29th, 2006 at 2:13 pm
Ummm…
Ehhh… (Shifts unconfortably.)
Well, I’ll suppose I’ll post my answers here, then, since I have no plans of starting a blog.
1. Four jobs: I’ve only had two (but I’ve already broken the rules, so it doesn’t matter). I’ve worked in a small grocery store (where the customers complimented me on being happy and helpful), and my current job is as a music teacher. Teaching trumpet, bassoon, trombone, alto horn and recorders to be specific. It’s a temp job, filling in for my former trumpet teacher who had a baby about a year ago. She’ll start working again after the summer.
2. Four movies I can watch Over and Over Again:
* The Nightmare Before Christmas (!)
* IQ
* 3 Men and a Little Lady
* Fierce Creatures
3. Four places I’ve lived. Once again I break the rules - besides studying in Piteå for six years, I’ve only lived here on Gotland.
4. Four TV-Shows
* Så skall det låta (Swedish game show where famous artists compete. Lots of singing and a great band.)
* Frasier
* Due South
* Lost
5. Four Places I’ve Vacationed
* Iceland
* Israel
* Wisconsin & Chicago
* Norway
(All those four were tours with choirs. Come to think of it, all my journeys abroad have been with either a choir or an orchestra of some sort.)
6. Four of my favourite dishes. (Continuing my “breaking the rules” tradition, I added a “u” to that item. I like to spell it that way.)
* Kroppkakor. (Don’t know the English word for it, and there probably isn’t one. This is traditional Swedish food, and it’s great.)
* Pizza
* Karl-Johan gryta. (Mushroom, minced meat, soy, … Eat with potatoes and lingonberry jam.)
* Pasta and a sauce with bananas and chili.
7. Four blogs I visit daily. Hmm…
* Well, this one (DKP) is in my RSS feed of course.
* http://www.worldwidewords.org/ is not exactly a blog, but I also subscribe to its RSS feed.
* I don’t visit http://blogs.msdn.com/oldnewthing/ daily, but I go there occasionally.
* A fourth one? I don’t know. How about http://www.doublefine.com/ ? Does that count as a blog? (I don’t visit it daily, but I check by now and then.)
8. Four places I’d rather be right now. Rather than where? Than here? I don’t know, I’m pretty happy with where I am right now. I’ll just steal your four places. (I’ll take tea rather than coffee though, if that’s ok with you. I guess that means I should change the coffee shop to a café, too, but if that means I’ll be talking to myself I could just stay at the coffee shop and order a cappucino.)
9. Four bloggers I’m tagging. Since I’m not playing by the rules anyway, I’m skipping this one. (As noted above, I don’t follow that many blogs anyway.)
March 29th, 2006 at 2:29 pm
Argh! Why did I not notice that “favourite” was spelled without a “u”?
Well, I suppose I’d better practice speaking American if I’m going to be living there soon…

Heh. Interesting. Where in the Phils have you been?
I don’t buy this whole blog v LJ stuff. There’s nothing physically that makes one more ‘intelligent’ than the other. Of course, if all you do is post memes, which LJ users can tend to do, it gets boring and stupid real quick. But it’s not like someone’s a smarter person becuase they choose a blog format over LJ. It’s the same thing with Mac v PC or Coreldraw v. Illustrator. Get a grip, people! It’s like thinking you’re better because you like the Flames over the Leafs. But this is just me being cranky.
I like memes when they’re cool, like this one. They’re a good chance to talk about things you wouldn’t otherwise, and make human connections. I like that. Also, that Girl Game Advance place looks like a place that would be interested in Game Quest! I’ll have to write them an email. SEE MEMES ARE GOOD FOR YOU!

Well, I don’t ACTUALLY think I’m superior because I use a real blog rather than a LiveJournal. I just enjoy acting pretentious in jest sometimes, as you may soon notice.
What I find annoying about most (not all!) LiveJournals is not just the memes (though too many of those get annoying too) but the fact that they tend to be extremely personal and very angsty. This might be nice to read for the journal author’s close friends, but no one else really cares. However, it might just be that I’d rather read about people’s ideas and opinions about the world rather than about that party they went to last Saturday. I’m strange that way.
Another thing that bugs me is how limited your design options are with LJ. Even if you get a paid account (which I’ve tried), trying to customize the S2 styles are a pain in the butt. Even customizing WordPress templates is easier, I find. Then again, this isn’t so much an issue for the majority of the world, I suppose.
In any case, despite LJ’s many flaws, it’s still far superior to Myspace.
Oh, and I’ve been around Manila (since I’ve got tons of family living there) and also Baguio (though not since I was really little).

That wasn’t a comment directed at you, mostly just the general sense of things I’ve been hearing on blog. Actually, there was another post by another blogger where he was so holier than thou about it that I’d been thinking about it.
Yeah, LJs are kinda cheesy. One big advantage for them, though, is the whole friending/interconnecting. Blogs really get integrated and when I mention my book there, a bunch of people see it on their friends page. I prefer blogs. They usually have much more substance, intellectually. I want to get rid of my LJ, but nobody ever checks my blog, they constantly check my LJ (which I only created to SEND people to my blog. crazy.) I agree with you preeeeetty much 100% about blogs vs LJ, actually.
I studied in Manila for 4 months on a student exchange. I was right down in malate, about 2 blocks south of De La Salle University. I’ve been through most of the phils, since I came back a year later and did a bunch of travelling through the visayas.

Aww… I’m a bit too occupied these days to be feeling uncomfortable, but I’ll give you a fastfood version (something else you’ll have to get used to anyway! Or so I hear)
One Job I’ve Had:
Betatester for TGTTPOACS. Horrible hours, terrible office and lousy pay. But at least I can say I’ve survived it.
One Movie I Can Watch Over and Over Again:
Apparently the South Park Movie (Bigger etc). I’ve been watching it several times in the last weeks for research (don’t ask) and it never stops being funny!
One Place I’ve Lived:
The TGTTPOACS betatest office.
One (and another one and another) TV Show I Love:
“Buiten De Zone”. Best and funniest Belgian show ever! Pure genious, but you’ll never get to see it abroad. “De Mol” was great too, and partly made by the same people of the best and funniest Belgian show ever (America made their own “The Moll” of it, no idea how that worked out).
And The Office! (not the TGTTPOACS betatest office, Ricky Gervais’ Office!)
One Place I’ve Vacationed:
South of France. A doctor once put a needle in my butt back there. Generally, it was fun though.
One of My Favorite Dishes:
Anything my mother cooks.
(Who am I kidding, she’s never going to read this)
I mean pizza.
One Blog I Visit Every Day:
Every day? What kind of life would that be? What do you take me for? As if I’d have the time to visit blogs on a DAILY basis. That’s INSANE!
And this blog of course.
One Place I’d Rather Be Right Now:
On my own website (http://users.skynet.be/kejero/halfwing/). It’s really the best place in the world for you and your children.
I feel so mean now for blatantly advertising
(I’ll keep smiling though -> see smiley)
One Blogger I’m Tagging:
Since I’m not sure about the rules of blogs and tagging, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to tag anyone, as I’m not even writing this in my own blog and all. Well… If tagging back is not allowed, I’d say yeah, let’s tag Tim Shafer! But then again, that could be dangerous; he did once grow a beard afterall, so who knows, he might have one… as we speak! And then, imagine tagging that beard! It would be like eating spaghetti, and suddenly spotting a huge worm! OMG! You see? It then WOULDN’T MATTER AT ALL anymore how tasty the spaghetti was! And that’s why I’ll just tag Deirdra back. See if I care if I’m breaking any rules.
Didn’t think so.
And good luck learning American, Squinky! I hope you will succeed where so many others have failed!
