Memes are for LiveJournals, Part Deux

March 28th, 2006

I swear I’ve done this meme before, but not on this particular blog. However, that guy who wrote that book I reviewed in my last blog entry appears to have tagged me, so now you get to read embarrassing answers to semi-personal questions. Doesn’t that sound fun or what?

But wait, there's more! »

It’s a book review!

March 25th, 2006

I honestly planned on spending my day catching up on some homework and getting some work done on that article I’m supposed to be writing for Adventure Gamers. Instead, however, I ended up voraciously devouring my recently-acquired copy of Leopold McGinnis’ Game Quest. I’m sure it goes without saying that given the fact that I couldn’t put down this book no matter how hard I tried to do so, it is absolutely imperative that every single one of you reading this blog goes out and buys their very own copy.[1] (The sooner you do so, the more likely it is that you’ll be able to take advantage of the launch discount!)

But wait, there's more! »

Footnotes:
  1. ‘Course, you could just read the sample chapters posted on the website, but quite frankly, they don’t do the book any justice. For one thing, reading large chunks of text on a computer screen will probably hurt your eyes after awhile. For another thing, all the quotation marks on the website seem to be replaced by question marks, and that’s just plain irritating. And finally, only about two thirds of the book are available online.

Ooh, more news!

March 24th, 2006

Guess what, everyone? I’m going to be doing an eight-month programming internship at Telltale Games this summer! Considering how much I enjoyed Out from Boneville and am looking forward to their Sam and Max games, this bodes quite well for me. It also means I’ll actually be breaking into the game industry as a professional. Joy.

Thus, a bit more than a month from now, I’ll be packing my bags and moving from the Great White North[1] of Canada to the sunny expanses of California. I expect to be bombarded with several people inquiring as to whether I actually say “aboot” and whether our Parilament building is, in fact, a giant igloo.

Anyway, on to some TGTTPOACS-related news. I’ve put up a ZIP version of the game for those of you who are allergic to Windows installers, and have linked to a walkthrough written by one of my awesome beta testers, Len Green. However, given my seething hatred for walkthroughs, I forbid you all from using it.

Footnotes:
  1. This is somewhat ironic, since I live in a place where it doesn’t snow… well, except for about a week every year when all the kids get overly excited and everyone else seems to completely forget how to drive properly.

Another Writing Gig

March 21st, 2006

Apparently, I now write for Adventure Gamers. This should be interesting.

On a completely different note, if you’re a Baha’i or if you’re Persian, happy new year!

I admit it, I’m obsessed with personality tests. Sure, they don’t tell me much that I don’t already know, but I still find them tons of fun regardless.

Today, I took this personal DNA test thingamabobber,[1] and my results gave birth to the following image:

(image broken)

Apparently, I’m some kind of cautious artist. An artist, hmm? I wonder why I’m studying computer science to get into the game industry and not art/animation. Probably because I scored too high on authoritarianism; most artist-types hate that, after all. And besides, computer science is a REAL degree. ;)

  1. Which, unfortunately, DOESN’T work in Opera, meaning I actually had to fire up Internet Explorer to take it. *cues loud booing from the crowd*

A Pi Day Prezzy

March 14th, 2006

The Game That Takes Place on a Cruise Ship has literally just been released. Can you believe I actually made it in time for Pi Day? I sure can’t.

I was going to see if I could release the game exactly at 1:59, or perhaps 15:09; however, it would have been much too difficult to pull off. Besides, I’m too preoccupied with hoping I’ve made for an early enough release that it’s not already March 15 on the other side of the world.

Before I shoo you all off to go download your very own copy, I’d just like to take the moment to thank everyone who’s been helpful and supportive of this game’s development, especially all my wonderful beta testers. (Your names are all in the credits, of course.) If it weren’t for all of you, then TGTTPOACS would be much less awesome than it is now.

Oh yeah, expect to see an actual postmortem of sorts on this blog sometime in the near future… when I’m not too swamped with stuff to do.
