Proof that I’m still working on the game.

July 26th, 2005

My progress on TGTTPOACS is still sporadic at best, but I did manage to do a little bit of character animation today. Here’s Captain Smith:

I wanted to make him walk in a Hanna-Barbera fashion, similar to Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory. This fits his short and slightly diabolical look quite well, and also makes him WAY easier to animate than all the other characters, who mostly have normal-sized legs.

As you see, I’m reading Book Six.

Honestly, the Harry Potter series is a complete and utter soap opera.

That is all I have to say.

Interactive stories are up!

July 15th, 2005

As I promised, I added a new section on interactive stories to this site. You can, of course, get to it by clicking on the “Okay, Kids… It’s Story Time!” link to your right. Alternatively, if you’re lazy, you can just click here.

The first thing you’ll probably notice will be the colour scheme. It’s lime green, in stark contrast to the dark colours on other areas of deirdrakiai.com. Why? Because I wanted a change. Besides, it’s pretty easy to change the colours to whatever I so desire, shall I decide that I don’t enjoy the way the green burns my retinas.

You also might noticed that I used a simple generic PHP forum script rather than an actual interactive story script. This is because I couldn’t for the life of me find a story script that I like, considering that many of them haven’t been updated since 2002. Also, this way, anyone can start a story, not just me (though you may want to start by just adding to the story I started). And the stories will split into multiple pages in the event that they get too long.

Other than that, well, the modifications to certain sites that I mentioned in the previous blog entries weren’t showing up properly in Internet Explorer. I have since fixed those, although the rollover images still aren’t working on the TGTTPOACS page. But of course, none of you have noticed this, as you’re all using Firefox, right?

Tinker, tinker, little star…

So, I’ve tinkered with this blog’s fonts and colours enough for me to generally like the way it looks, meaning I probably won’t get tired of it anytime soon. You might also notice that I’ve slightly changed the TGTTPOACS and Scum and Miscellany pages. Only slightly, though. I haven’t really added any new content or anything, so don’t get TOO excited.

I’m thinking of putting an interactive story page on this site sometime. (For those of you who have been visiting various forums/websites I’ve created since 2000 or so, you may find this to be a recurring activity I like to promote.) Which would you people prefer contributing to: a linear interactive story, or a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-type interactive story?

On another note, I wish there were more hours in a day (or at the very least, I wish I didn’t need sleep) so that I could play more Psychonauts. The fact that I have terrible hand-eye coordination and that I decided to be a cheapskate and buy the PC version rather than a more control-friendly console version doesn’t help me complete the game as quickly as I’d like to. Poo.

Oh la la, c’est un blog!

July 8th, 2005

Hello, and welcome to the new and improved Deirdra Kiai Productions, which, by some miraculous twist of fate, has transformed into a blog. Why? Because all the cool kids are doing it, and the management thought it would be a good idea to let its audience know what exactly goes on behind the scenes at Deirdra Kiai Productions’s secret labs.

The big question is: will The Game That Takes Place on a Cruise Ship ever be finished? The big answer is: yes, but due to the fact that I have created this blog, I have wasted a large chunk of my valuable time that could have been spent working on the game. Therefore, TGTTPOACS’s release is going to be delayed by… er… half an hour or so.

The real answer is that I’ve had a full-time co-op job for the past six months that has drained my work ethic to the point that I want to collapse and do nothing when I get home. But despite the fact, the game is still progressing. At a pace that a snail could beat, yes, but it’s progressing. That’s something, isn’t it?

And now that I have answered the big question, I shall bid you all adieu. Here’s to a bright and friendly future in which I hopefully will update this blog regularly rather than leaving it to sit in cyberspace and collect dust.
